Rich Brown Tops NASCAR Point Race
DAYTONA BEACH Fla. (UP I) May 21, 1973 - Richard Brown's
fourth place finish in a weekend 100-mile event at Rougemont, N.C., has boosted
him into the lead in the point standings of the NASCAR Grand National East
Division. Brown, assistant manager of the Hickory, N.C., speedway, moved into
the lead with 410.75 points, while idle Bobby Allison, of Hueytown, Ala., fell
to seventh with 328 points, Allison, the leading money winner with $1,750 in
Grand
National competition, skipped the Rougemont race in order to prepare for the
Indianapolis 500. Eddie Yarboro of Elkin, N.C., moved into second with 388.75
points, with Ernie Shaw of Winston-Salem, N.C., third at 382 and David Boggs of
Morrisville, N.C., fourth at 373.25. Canadian Vic Pa r sons,
second last week, fell to fifth with 380 points after finishing 17th at
Rougemont when his car suffered a bent valve
